I love me a ‘Day in the Life’ post and I thought it would be fun to document how our life looks during quarantine. It will be interesting to look back at this season in our life….I’ll probably feel extreme relief that this HARD and stressful time is behind us. My hope is that my boys will remember how hard we tried to make this family time special and memorable… and hopefully they will not remember my teaching skills, lol.
I documented last Tuesday, May 5, 2020, which also was Cinco de Mayo! Before I begin, let’s start with a truth bomb…this day was not all rosy and joyful. It was actually a very hard day with the boys; full of tantrums, punishments, time-outs and tears. Contrary to how the pictures show a full day of family fun, school and activities. There were some highs but also a few lows. Just want to keep it real and honest here!
Luke and Tyler get up between 6:30am-7:30am. They chill, grab a smoothie and get screen time. My morning starts off by making the boys breakfast. We keep breakfast simple with options of cereal, toast or pancakes with a side of yogurt.
While they eat their breakfast, I head upstairs to the play room to do my daily meditation with the Calm app. It is something I have taken up since COVID-19 started to help my mental health and my anxiety. I feel like it helps so I’m making it a daily habit.
After meditation, I do my morning routine: writing in my gratitude journal, reading from ‘The Daily Stoic’ followed by journaling my thoughts on what I read. I enjoy my first cup of coffee and today I decided to keep it simple with a Cliff chocolate chip bar for breakfast. My boys are allowed screen time until 8:45am and then they head upstairs to get dressed and start their daily chores.
Time to reset the kitchen after breakfast and empty the dishwasher, all while listening to a podcast.
Jason gets up 6:45am to start his day and spends it in our home office/guest room working hard, trying to stay sane through the noise of his “coworkers”.
I head upstairs to get dressed for my workout.
I then get Tyler dressed and ready for the day, while helping him through his morning chores which are picking up his room and making his bed.
We all head downstairs by 9ish. Luke starts his virtual school work, Tyler plays and I get some work done. Luke has his daily zoom meeting with his teacher at 10:30am. I wait to workout until after this call so I can make sure he is on schedule with what he needs to accomplish.
We started to let Luke go on daily runs by himself around our neighborhood. He needed to get in more exercise and so we have loosened the reigns and given him some independence to venture out on his own. Lots of rules and boundaries but he LOVES it and feels grown up and his personality is very cautious, so we feel comfortable allowing him to do this.
I head to our garage to get my cardio session in on our elliptical. Tyler joins me to hang out. When Luke gets back he finishes his workout by doing situps, pullups and other exercises with Tyler while I’m still on the elliptical machine.
Working on his core!
The boys headed back inside the house while I finished my workout. This is the point where things got bad for us. Usually the boys do well playing while I finish my workout but that was not the case today. Perfect storm, Jason was on an executive team meeting call when the boys started fighting. Tyler was yelling at the top of his lungs and they were bickering. I broke it up twice, interrupting my workout. But then Tyler was in the garage screaming and crying and Luke locked him (and me) out of the house. I didn’t capture this great family moment with a picture but you can imagine how the entire family had fumes coming out of the ears. Time outs for both of them in their rooms, punishments…money taken off weekly allowance and buckets of tears.
It led me to this moment…
Time for everyone to have some alone time and reset….I showered and got myself ready for the rest of the day.
When I came downstairs, my Sephora order arrived….HAPPINESS!
Time to get a load of laundry on….today was towel day!
Thank goodness, it’s time for LUNCH!!
Time for Luke to finish up his school work…
Creative Time: Aquabeads outside in our courtyard for the win!!
Then we headed in the pool for some vitamin D and fun in the water, thank the heavens for having a pool during this season of life…what a blessing it is! Let’s be honest, the boys fought some in the pool and it ended in tears and hurt feelings. Time to have our 2nd reset of the day….
After the pool, the boys enjoyed their afternoon screen time and fresh popcorn, while I finished up some more work.
Mama snack time…always trying to get in more protein!
At 4:30pm I had a Virtual Pop Up Cocktail Party with Ivy and Pine. My friend Megan got a bunch of her girlfriends together while we sipped on cocktails and looked at the latest designs and cute clothes that Ivy and Pine offers. It was a fun time and Danielle tried on a bunch of pieces while we took note of what we wanted to order.
Dinnertime and I forgot to document it but we had Chicken Tacos in honor of Cinco de Mayo, they were delicious!
Time to clean up the kitchen, AGAIN!!
After dinner we went on a family walk together!
When we got back we all watched our current family show, “Nailed It!” It’s a fun amateur baking competition show. They have two challenges where they have to recreate a baking item which they never match the original and there is a ton of laugh out loud moments. We are all enjoying it!
We got the boys ready for bed at 8pm. Luke takes a shower and Tyler gets a bath. Followed by storytime!
I washed my face and got ready for bed….I prefer to wash my face earlier in the evening before I’m tired and ready to fall into my bed.
Boys went to bed around 8:45pm….Finally, mom and dad get some downtime. Poor Jason had more work to do, so I enjoyed my guilty pleasure show, Vanderpump Rules!
After the show I talked with Jason about the COVID-19 situation, this is when we recap and discuss what’s happening not in front of the boys. Don’t get me wrong they are aware of what’s going on but we choose to not go over every scary detail of it with them.
We relax into bed by 10:30pm and I read a few blog posts from blogs that I love before I turn off my mind and end the exhausting day, lol!
What a day, this is a time in history we will definitely remember! I’m thankful for our health, our home, our pool and our blessings in being together during these strange times!
