Happy Friday, friends!
Before I get to the fun stuff of this past week, I gotta tell you a quick thought that’s on my mind. It’s been a crazy week in California with all the fires. I have had several friends have to evacuate and it’s been so scary. Seriously, the firefighters are true heroes and they have to work so hard to protect us, very thankful for them! We live in a fire zone area too so it is always stressful this time of year. I have an “In Case of a Fire List” on my phone in an app called Evernote. This app makes it easy to share your lists with family or your in case of an emergency contact. Right now I have a bunch of stuff put together in case we needed to leave fast. It’s mostly pictures, photo albums, and things that are not replaceable like my boy’s baby books. I have so many sentimental Christmas decorations too. I collect Christmas ornaments from all around the world from our travels and my collection also includes ornaments from both my grandma’s from their world travels. My list also includes important documents such as passports, birth cert, marriage license, etc. Maybe I should do a post on this, Ha! No matter where you live in our country because of natural disasters, it’s a good idea to make a list of the items that are not replaceable. Then by each item put where it is located in your home. This way you can work on grabbing the most important things instead of trying to decide what to grab on a minute’s notice.
Okay….back to the highlights of our week!
On Friday, we had Family Fun Night and watched a movie called Caraline. It was very creepy but well done, still it was not my favorite…Jason picked it out, lol and I was tired and dozed off in parts of it. Sometimes you have to fight falling asleep after a tiring week. Ha!
On Saturday, we relaxed, watched some football, of course meal-planned and then in the afternoon we carved pumpkins.
On Sunday morning, I made us Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Rolls with Pumpkin Spice Icing and enjoyed one with my coffee and it was a FAVORITE!
After breakfast, the cleanout bug hit me and when it does you need to strike and I attacked my closet. This was my situation with my closet, I have lots of different sizes of things from my weight fluctuating over the years after having kids. It was frustrating for me to have all these clothes that didn’t fit me stare at me every day. So, I finally took the time to eliminate those clothes and ones that I no longer like or that were too short. But I’m not completely crazy, I kept most of my denim and stored them in flat plastic bins that fit under the bed. I have to admit this was an emotional process because it is upsetting when certain things don’t fit any longer. But now they are out of my closet and I only get to look at items that actually fit me and I think that’s a healthier way of living.
Here’s how my closet looked by the end and it was definitely a FAVORITE for me to get this task off my to-do list. It’s so nice to feel like my clothes can breathe and not be over-crowded.
On Sunday evening, we had our first Family Game Night and invited my parents to join us.
Recipe for Halloween Popcorn:
Ingredients:
- 2 bags of homestyle popcorn
- 1 1/2 cups of roasted peanuts
- 1 1/2 cups of candy corns
- 1 1/2 cups of reese’s pieces
- 1 lb of white chocolate chips
Directions:
- melt white chocolate chips over a double boiler, using a pot and a bowl. Stir until chips have melted.
- Pop both bags of popcorn
- Put peanuts, candy corns, and reeses’s pieces over the popcorn in a large bowl.
- Drizzle the melted chocolate over everything. I found using my hands to mix all the ingredients helped to coat everything.
- Lay the popcorn over the waxed paper and let it completely dry.
- Enjoy!!
