Mom with a Plan

What’s up Wednesday!
May 27, 2020

I’m so excited to link up with Sheaffer & Shay! This is a series where I will tell you about a variety of things that we are up to: what we are cooking, what we are looking forward to, etc. It is a post that will come out on the last Wednesday of each month. I hope you enjoy it!

1. What we’re eating this week:

Strawberry Lemon Bread, you can find the recipe HERE

2. What I’m reminiscing about:

Being with family!

I miss my cousins!

Being with friends!

We went to a viewing of the Voice last year and I’m reminiscing about being able to go to fun places and have experiences with my friends.
I’m reminiscing about being able to do a girls weekend….this was last year at a winery in Temecula with my besties, I miss them!!

My boys playing sports:

We are sure missing the fun that goes along with being a part of a team and having fun playing sports outside with our friends!
Thinking back to when we had Luke’s pool party last year for his birthday….We miss being with our friends SO much!

3. What I’m loving:

Our pool! Honestly, thank goodness for this at-home activity right now!

I’m loving the Greek Chicken Bowl I made recently!

OMG, it was so delicious!! Recipe will be up on my blog soon!

Listening to Tyler play with his Peppa Pig toys!

I’m loving watching Luke take up skateboarding!

5. What I’m dreading:

Not being able to be with my sister-in-law, Dana, this Summer. We had 2 uber fun plans for this Summer and I’m dreading that they are not going to happen due to COVID-19.
I’m dreading that family Summer vacations may not be what we had hoped. This was last year during our staycation in Huntington Beach, CA. It’s hard to plan what a family vacation will look like this year…somehow, someway we will get away to do something as a family…we are thinking of renting a place at Lake Tahoe for a week???

6. What I’m working on:

My boys’ baby-books….this is a time consuming project. Their baby books go up to their first 5 years of life. I add in blank pages to include more picture collages in the back. I’m hoping I can get caught up on this project while being stuck at home.

I’m also working on finding a replacement picture/art work for above our fireplace in the living room. Any recommendations?? Finding things I love to hang in our house is always a challenge for me.

Luke’s Birthday: I’m also starting to work on options for Luke’s 9th birthday next month. It’s so hard to plan anything right now because who knows where things will stand with social distancing a month from now. My hope is that we will be able to open up our social bubbles further to 10-15 people. Luke really wants a gaming truck for his birthday so fingers crossed I can make this happen.

7. What I’m excited about:

I’m excited that virtual schooling is ending June 4th…can I get some praise hands please!!! Luke’s teacher did a great job adapting to this new learning environment, however, home schooling is not my forte so Summer Break never looked so good! Honestly, though, I’m also nervous about keeping my boys busy, stimulated and thriving this Summer. With no Summer camps on the horizon its going to be a tricky break but things are starting to open up here in CA so it’s time to get creative with how we are going to fill our days. One challenge ends, while another challenge presents itself….such is life!!

I so badly want to say something else I’m excited about but I got nothing, augh!!! Let’s see, maybe I can come up with something… well I’m excited to hopefully start to see more of our friends soon…even if it is just casual and small outside gatherings. During these times I’ve definitely have felt how important friendships are and how they contribute to our happiness. I miss my people; laughing with them, giving them hugs and having amusing banter over brunch, lol! I’m excited for this part of life to possibly start up again.

8. What I’m watching / reading:

What I’m watching:

I’ve loved watching this dark comedy, Dead to Me!
I’m enjoying this funny show, Workin’ Moms!
Jason and I are watching and enjoying the latest season of Westworld!

What I’m Reading:

Enjoying this fun read by Jessica Simpson, Open Book! You can find it HERE.

9. What I’m listening to:

Podcasts!!

Funny podcast by Jodie Sweetin and Celia Behar!
This podcast is a good listen to about marriage and family life by two imperfect people!

10. What I’m wearing:

I purchased this new cute Spring top from Ivy and pine, you can find it HERE
I purchased this cute dress from Amazon for only $25!! You can find it HERE. It comes in so many different patterns but I’m a sucker for some stripes.
These inexpensive thin and soft jogger pants are in regular rotation for me and I just ordered a second pair because I love them so much. They are only $14 and a great buy. You can find them HERE.
I’m loving this visor too and have it in both colors, you can find it HERE.
Here is the other color, you can find it HERE.
I purchased this cute cute tie dye pajama set, it is so cute and soft, you can find it HERE.

11. What I’m doing this weekend:

Hmmm….well nothing is on the planner as far as places we need to be. We will do our usual Family Fun Night on Friday night. You can read a post here on how this night goes down. Saturday and Sunday you can find us in our pool having family fun! We eat lunch and dinner outside while we enjoy the beautiful weather. I foresee a family bike ride in the plans and maybe we will pick up some yummy food from a restaurant in town. I also want to get my boys to the beach to enjoy the beautiful ocean and some fun playing in the sand. Our weekends seem to be a mix of enjoying family time outside, relaxing, sleeping in, movies with popcorn and random activities with our boys.

Imagine this picture on repeat when it comes to what our weekends look like, lol!

12. What I’m looking forward to next month:

Celebrating Luke’s 9th Birthday! Not sure what it will look like yet but his grandparents from Florida are driving out here for his big day so that will be awesome and Luke will feel loved and happy to see them!

Last year, Luke had a fun pool party to celebrate his 8th Birthday!

We were supposed to go to Cabo, Mexico at the end of the month for my 40th birthday celebration but with borders still closed and the uncertainty of Mexico’s conditions in relation to Coronavirus we had to postpone these plans but we do have a Plan B in the making….renting a house at Lake Havasu and staying there with my best friend, Megan and her husband Cole. They have a boat so we can go out on the lake and enjoy some water activities like water skiing, knee boarding and renting jet ski’s. I grew up taking vacations near a lake and love water sports!! I’m excited for our Plan B getaway! I can’t wait to have some relaxing adult time away and appreciate the grandparents helping to make this happen.

Throw back to us celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary in Cancun, Mexico 2 years ago! Wishing we were able to be in Mexico but we are only postponing our trip to Cabo…we will get back there when it is safe to do so.

13. What else is new:

Our world is changing weekly as far as what we can expect the next month to look like. It’s a new feeling of having to get comfortable with things changing, trying to understand what our new normal will look like and settling in on the fact that unknowns are a way of life right now. We are all in this together and my hope is that we come out of it on the other side stronger in our family values, our faith, and in taking action on what is important to us as American citizens. What’s new is my feeling that we all need to be strong, speak up for what we believe in, all while being good people and doing the right thing while thinking of others and our communities….We can do this, we can build a stronger future for our kids!!

See you back here on the last Wednesday of the month in June, until then…take care of yourself, your mind and body and continue to do your best for your family! XO
