Mom with a Plan

Let’s Look: How I organize for the New Year

This post series comes out once a month and it takes a peek into different areas of our home, relationship and life.

This month’s topic for Let’s Look is taking a peek at How I Organize for the New Year!

It’s the first ‘Let’s Look!’ post of the New Year! I’m excited to be linking back up with Mix Match Mama and A Little Bit of Everything blog for these fun posts that take a peek into different areas my life.

First, I want to mention that I am by no means perfect in this area and this year I haven’t even started yet so this post is helping kick my booty into gear too. We traveled at both Thanksgiving and right after Christmas this year and certain things have been delayed. Dealing with colds after being in Utah didn’t help either.

However, setting intentions for the year and making personal & family goals is very important to me. I say, “so what if you didn’t have a perfect plan by January 1st, it’s never too late!!”

How I organize for the new year….there are a few things that come to mind.

My Planner

This year I’m using my simplified planner to help me get organized for the year a head. If you don’t have a good section in your planner, then I would create a google doc to keep track of what you want to accomplish for the year. You can always make a good old-fashion list on paper too, nothing wrong with that.

Reflection

Reflecting back on the last year is a good step to take before moving forward. This is a good time to think about what worked and didn’t work. I would talk to your significant other too to see if they have any thoughts on improvements that could be tweaked for the upcoming year.

Setting Intentions

After reflecting on the past year, I then set my intentions for how I want the new year to go. Different seasons of life can change your schedule. For instance, you may still have young children and it would benefit you to wake up before them, so you can tend to your own needs first. Maybe your mornings are hectic and you need to add more things to do in your nightly routine. I feel like sometimes we get caught in doing things the same way when it would be beneficial to take a few minutes and come up with a new plan.

Declutter and Clean Out Your Home & Life

I think the winter season after the holidays and in the new year is a great time to re-set your life. This simplicity Challenge is a great list to follow for getting your life and home back in order. I also like to get a clip board and walk my house room to room. I open up drawers and cabinets and look at which areas need to be cleaned out. Then, over the next month or two I make sure I tackle a couple of those areas every week. Add clean-out areas to your weekly action items and just get it done and you will feel the weight lift off your shoulders.

Yearly Bucket List

Take time to think of things you want to accomplish and experience solo or with family. You’re putting your dreams out there. Life can get too busy, we need to take the time to dream and think about what we want to do with our life each and every year. As you know you can blink and a few years have gone by so let’s make this next year count!

Create 2022 Goals

This is how I like to organize making goals for the new year. It’s simple and gets you and your family in the mindset of making sure intentions are set in all areas of your life. It’s good to refer back to this list monthly as you plan out your weekly and monthly to-do’s, to make sure you are taking steps towards accomplishing your goals.

Final Thoughts

The new year is a clean slate to start over, improve, and reset different areas of your life. Am I behind this year in doing this, yes ma’am but do I have a plan in getting it done? Sure do! If you can believe it, today is the first day in the new year that I’ve had quiet and not been dealing with something. I’m going to light a candle, enjoy a hot cup of coffee while I fill out these pages. This weekend I scheduled time to sit down as a family to set intentions too. It’s never too late to get started and I hope seeing how I get myself organized in the new year can help you do the same.

If you have anything to add or offer that you do, drop me a note in the comment section, I would love to hear about how you organize yourself and family in the new year!

Next months topic is what I eat in a week! Love this topic, it will give us ideas we can incorporate into our own weekly meal plan.
