Happy Friday, Friends! I hope you have a nice long weekend and enjoy Memorial Day! Some areas are more opened up than others and it would be so nice to do something fun outside of the house and enjoy where you live so I hope you get to do just that!

1// My 40th Birthday

This was on my birthday 2 years ago…we were going to see the play Hamilton!

This Saturday happens to be my big 4-0 birthday…and to be honest I’ve been dreading it. It has been looming over me for awhile and I’ve struggled with it…just ask my husband, lol. I usually love birthdays and eat up the attention from my family but sadly that has not been the case for me this year.

It could be because I don’t like the number and it makes me feel like I’m getting older, but it’s more than that. It’s a milestone birthday and I’m not able to celebrate it with family and friends the way I had hoped and that is a big disappointment that I’ve been processing. I wanted to go to a concert with friends, have dinner and drinks beforehand and celebrate over live music, which is one of my favorite things to do. The reality is who knows when concerts will be available again. We were also supposed to go to Cabo with friends next month and with the boarders still closed that will be postponed too. The unknown is an uncomfortable place and that’s where we have to sit with life right now.

I know a lot of us are dealing with disappointments and struggles and there is no sugar coating it, it’s hard! Jason and I were going to stay the night in a hotel this weekend and we cancelled that too because honestly what’s the point of spending money on a nice room when we can’t go out anywhere and get a drink or have a nice dinner out. We are, however, going to enjoy a “shelter-in-place” style date night. My parents will be watching the boys overnight on Saturday. We are going to go down to the beach and enjoy a walk along the water. There is something calming and soothing about looking out onto the water that gives you peace and hope. Then we plan on picking up some dinner from a nice restaurant and bringing it home. Then to finish the night off, have a cocktail in our jacuzzi and just relax.

The funny thing is, I remember my Mom’s 40th birthday party and remember thinking, they are so old, haha!! You blink and you are there! My mom and my mother-in-law say the forties are the best, you are still young with no aches and pains, you are out of the baby and toddler stage and get to enjoy your little people more. You also get to travel more often and just feel more settled in life. Those are all good reminders of why I should be looking forward to this next decade in my life. My poor husband has to tell me these reasons on the daily right now to cheer me up. I’m happy with where I am in life and I have so many blessings and things to be thankful for; I know this, but I still haven’t been able to shake the sad feelings the past few weeks and coronavirus obviously hasn’t helped matters. I’m not one to fake how I’m feeling so I thought I would be honest with you with where I’m at when it comes to turning 40. I’m going to try my best to make the most of it and celebrate it with my little family and my sweet husband. Jason has been trying so hard to make me smile and see the glass half full…so I will do my best for him! Hopefully, by next week I’ll be be able to move forward into new beginnings and just be thankful for the wonderful & healthy life I am blessed to live.

Reminiscing back when we could do fun things on our birthday, lol

2// Jason’s Dress Up Zoom Call with Work

Jason’s work plans some fun ways to keep morale up during these crazy times. They were to dress up like they were going to the beach and whoever won got a gift card. Jason did great but he lost to a man wearing a mermaid costume, lol!

He had a fan blowing on him like he was at the beach! He even put his beer in a plastic cup, lol!!
It’s fun to change your background and he did a great job at looking like he was on vacay at the beach…wishful thinking right now!!

3// Outside Hang Out with Cousins!

We had my my brother’s kids over for some outside fun by the pool! It was so good for the cousins to have some playtime and splash around and just enjoy each other.

Those smiles and laughter is just what we all needed!
We bbq’d and enjoyed this beautiful weather!

4// Kid’s Science Experiment – Drawing Secret Messages:

Directions: You need 1/3 cup of baking soda + 1/3 cup of water, grape juice from a can (I couldn’t find grape so I got fruit punch), a few q-tips, card stock and paint brushes. You can explain that you are able to do this because the juice is acidic and the baking soda mixture acts as a base.

Step 1: mix the water and baking soda together in a cup.
Step 2: put juice into a bowl and mix it up.
Ready to create their secret messages!
Step 4: use a paint brush and dip it into the juice and then paint over your secret message to view it.
I drew a picture, lol
It was a simple activity/experiment but the boys enjoyed it and being creative outside is always a bonus!

5// Body Glide for Her:

Have you guys tried this stuff? It’s great to put on under your sports bra or in between your legs before a long walk or a work out, basically any where you get sensitive to your skin rubbing. It works awesome, highly recommend it!

That’s a wrap on five things for this week! Cheers to having a good long relaxing weekend, enjoy Memorial Day!!
