Mom with a Plan

Five on Friday!
July 24, 2020

Happy Friday, friends! What a week it has been…the plot thickens on the Gimeno Family Covid-19 Mystery! Luke and I got tested for Covid-19 antibodies and Luke’s results came back POSITIVE and mine came back NEGATIVE!!! I have no words to explain this craziness. But it does tell us that Covid-19 was in our home. How can our kids have had it but Jason and I didn’t, yet we still had symptoms for 8 days. I can’t explain it except to say this virus is strange and I can’t wait till we have it figured out.

In other news, we found out that our kids will not be returning to school in the Fall. I have all kinds of feelings about this Hot Topic! I get it, I feel bad for teachers and I also feel bad for our kids who will be missing out on a lot. It’s so odd to me that schools are opening in hot spots like Florida but here in California they will be closed, it doesn’t seem fair that we don’t have a choice. I guess time will tell who handled the Covid-19 situation better. The other thing I worry about is the dual working parents and the impact this will have on them. Mothers always seem to get the short end of the stick and I worry that it will take them out of the workforce. Virtual Schooling is no joke and is a lot of work and more than likely the women of the household will be pulling back from their careers to deal with homeschooling duties. My worry is this will make it harder for them to re-enter the workforce when this is over. This article in the New York Times explains a working mom’s perspective, “In the Covid-19 Economy, You Can Have a Kid or a Job. You Can’t Have Both.”

On a different note, this week I’ve been dealing with my car and getting it ready for our road trip in a couple of weeks to Lake Tahoe!! I’m finally getting around to the task of getting all new tires. Added bonus: my car was leaking a tar-like substance and I found out the CV boots needed to be replaced… Yay for car expenses!! On the positive side, we are renting an AIRBNB with my parents for a week at Lake Tahoe so I can’t wait to take my boys out of our house for a change of scenery.

Alright, enough of my thoughts, let’s get to my 5 things!

1// Luke’s 9th Birthday!

I can’t believe Luke is 9, I say this every year but it’s his last year of being in the single digits!! Luke wanted to have a gaming truck for his b-day party but during these times it was not possible. So we had a nice family celebration at home.

Getting ready to open his b-day gifts!
Luke is into skateboarding so he was thrilled to receive a new board and cool gloves!

We had his cousins over to celebrate! Pool, pizza and ice cream cake were on the agenda!

The new dinosaur float was a huge hit! It is a very thick material and made well, you can find it HERE.
Luke’s ice cream birthday cake! He wanted his youtube channel written on his cake, “Luke Plays!”
I hope all of your b-day wishes come true!
Being silly with your cousins is the best!
Happy Birthday, Luke! You are one awesome kid with so many endearing qualities. You make us so proud!

2// Our 12th Anniversary!

We were under self-quarantine during this occasion. We celebrated a week later with an at-home date night. Our boys spent the night at their grandparents. We ordered in Italian food, played music loud in our house and danced while being silly, lol! When the kids are away, the parents will play! The following morning was so nice and relaxing, we both got to sleep in which is both of our love languages! I made us brunch and then Jason worked out while I worked on my blog in complete silence. It was wonderful to do something for ourselves, especially because I never get to work without being interrupted nowadays. Very thankful to my parents for giving us this break and time together!

On our at-home date night!

We didn’t exchange big gifts for our Anniversary, instead, we are finally getting new window treatments for the 5 windows in our bedroom. Our bedroom is light and cheery except that we still have the brown blinds in from the original owner so I’ve only put off this task for 7 years. You can tell how much I love doing window treatments, LOL! I have ordered everything but the Pottery Barn items are delayed and our curtains don’t arrive until October.

Ok, so I still got a little something to mark our Anniversary. We love these Willow Tree statues to represent important events (when we got married, had Luke and then when we had Tyler). It found a home on my nightstand.

I’m so appreciative of our 12 years of marriage. On July 22nd it marks 15 years since the day we met on that Alaska cruise so long ago. Time sure does fly but my love for Jason continues to grow and he is still my most favorite person in the world.

3//What the boys have been up to:

Luke got these fun Tech Decks! You build the skateboard and can choose the designs on the back and he loves to fidget with them around the house. You can find them HERE.

Tyler is sticker OBSESSED right now! I draw him landscapes that will go with the pack of stickers and he enjoys making scenes with them. You can find the sticker packs HERE.

4// New Pool Floaties

Luke received this dinosaur float for his birthday and it’s been a big hit! Our brick around our pool is not nice to floats and puts holes in them quickly. But this dinosaur float is made SO well with thick material. It gets scraped up against the sides and is holding up beautifully, I highly recommend it, you can find it HERE.
This Banana float has been fun and they love doing flips off of it. You can find it HERE.
Lookin’ cute babe, lol

5// Beach Summer Fun

We have been enjoying the beach together and now that Luke enjoys boogie boarding he’s all about the beach!

That’s a wrap for this week! What fun things have you and your families been up to? I’m always looking for new ideas. I hope you all have a great weekend!
